Glaciers, ice caves and the Northern Lights, in one long weekend

The Northern Lights

Three nights of aurora hunting, with an observatory, outdoor hot tubs and a wake-up call at Hotel Rangá when the sky starts to dance.

Inside the glacier

Crampons on and into a natural blue ice cave under the Katla volcano, plus a snowmobile ride across the Langjökull ice cap.

Waterfalls and geysers

The Golden Circle by private super-jeep: Þingvellir, the Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss, then Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss and the black sands of Reynisfjara.

Three handpicked stays

The Reykjavik EDITION on the harbour, Hotel Rangá for the lights, and a lagoon suite at The Retreat at Blue Lagoon to finish.

Day by day

■

Day One: Hello, Reykjavík

Meet the group at Heathrow for the three-hour morning flight to Keflavík. Private transfer to The Reykjavik EDITION on the harbour, an afternoon to wander the old town, then a welcome dinner where ten strangers start to become friends. If the sky is clear, we head out of the city lights to look for the aurora.

Day Two: The Golden Circle and Langjökull

By private super-jeep to Þingvellir, where two continents pull apart, then the Strokkur geyser and the thundering Gullfoss falls. Up onto the Langjökull ice cap for a snowmobile ride across the glacier, then on to Hotel Rangá for a hot tub, dinner and an aurora wake-up call.

Day Three: The south coast and the Katla ice cave

Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss in their winter coats, then the black sand and basalt columns of Reynisfjara. In the afternoon, crampons on and into a blue ice cave under the Katla volcano. Back to Rangá for a long dinner and another night under the observatory dome.

Day Four and Five: The Blue Lagoon, then home

A slow breakfast, then west along the coast to The Retreat at Blue Lagoon, where your suite opens straight onto the lagoon. An afternoon in the Retreat Spa, then a farewell tasting menu at Moss.

On Monday, an early swim in the steam, 20 minutes to the airport and the midday flight home. Back in London by mid-afternoon, with a camera roll full of photos you're actually in.
